Taking care of business

May 5th, 2007 · 6 Comments

We’re sitting outside at a very fancy Sundanese restaurant, under a tent with a big lowered table.  There are humongous koi on all sides, in a pond that wraps around all the tables.  Even though this is a fancy meal and we are stuffed, our total bill was only about $7.

The temperature is very cool now, and a little breezy, very relaxing.  I think it’s going to rain soon, maybe a downpour, I’m not sure.  This restaurant has wi-fi access, so we are doing some online errands, and will soon do some offline errands.  Still not able to access my digitalcrossroads.com email address.

We are looking at houses but there aren’t a lot of options, and we’re not sure how to look (even with assistance).  There is one house we’re considering, about $1500 for a year.  It’s rough around the edges, rougher than I was expecting, but it appears to be the standard for teachers.  If we get DSL at our house, it will equal the cost of the rent (wow!), but will be much slower than DSL in the US.

Battery is dying, and we have errands to run, so I’ll sign off for now.  More details soon, including the sights and sounds of the Bandung streets at night.

Glad ya’ll made it in one piece! I hate flying! The AC thing is so terrible! So dehydrating! I had 4 gross flights to get here, and i was like a raisin in the end!

Be sure to “ease” into eating the street food, and you may be suprised to find the prices as cheap as a dollar a meal.
I seem to always get sick when I first start on the street food, but the body builds immunity fast. And it’s often the case that the street food tastes even better than fancy restaurant food!
We just came from the city of Tiruvenamali, where breakfast was 18 rupees–or about 50 cents!! On the flip side, Gen, who’s been used to eating Auroville food got sick, but the rest of us are fine…
    happy eatings/house huntings.

I paid the PSE bill. The final City Light bill is also paid. I will keep you posted as to what I pay.

Glad to read that you are getting into a routine. Hope you find living quarters soon.

Hugs to you both. Your Mom and I have been keeping in touch.

Whenever you find anything relaxing during these first few months, I will be glad! (Thinking of dinner in the Sudanese restaurant.) I know you love those tropical rains and the feel of the air before and after. We will continue to remember you as you decide on the apartment or house.

Hey man I haven’t been able to send an email to the address you gave me… Can you try and send me an email when you get a chance?

Glad to hear you have arrived! Seattle has been pretty nice these last few days but dinner still costs more than $1! Enjoy yourselves over there and keep writing about the adventure.
