What if you left everything behind, and moved halfway around the world?

Everything I own fits in a 5×5 space

Well, technically Denise’s stuff is in there too. So everything we currently own fits within a 5-foot by 5-foot space. Crazy. Of course it’s like 10 feet tall…

I have never “moved” like this in my life, and it is an experience I’ll not soon forget. We sold things for pennies on the dollar, a real fire sale. We gave away box after box to Goodwill and friends. And then we threw away the rest, probably about 20-30 garbage bags’ worth. And this was good stuff, fully functional and useful, not junk. But we had to pare down our belongings to fit in the small space we rented. It felt really weird to get rid of so much… but also kind of liberating in a way.

And I am SO tired. Roughly 4 hours of sleep last night. Three hours of sleep the night before. Maybe 6 hours the previous night. And in between that was non-stop packing, moving, stacking, donating, and cleaning. I ache all over. But it’s finally done, and we leave tonight.

Elton John’s “Rocket Man” is stuck in my head.

Billy, “Change” is a process of letting go, and mourning what is left behind, so you can embrace what is ahead of you.

What you have freely and generously given away in Seattle, will be generously restored to you in experience, friends, and the joy of following your “calling” half-way around the world.

You will NEVER be the same again!

Thanks! That’s a good way of looking at it. :)
